The main event sees “The Last Stylebender” Israel Adesanya defending his Middleweight title against Sean Strickland.
This will be Adesanya’s first bout since regaining the division championship at UFC 287 by knocking out Alex Pereira, just five months after losing the belt to the American at UFC 281. The Nigerian fighter has been in the championship conversation, both in the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions, for over four years. He has a career record of 24-2, with his two losses coming in championship fights, and 16 wins coming by knockout.
Strickland has finally worked his way into a title fight after being with the promotion for almost a decade. He earned a shot at Adesanya’s belt by knocking out Abusupiyan Magomedov at Fight Night back in July. With wins in consecutive fights, the Anaheim native is 27-5 in his career, all five of his losses coming in the UFC, with 15 wins coming by knockout or submission.
Another fight to watch for is a heavyweight bout between Tai Tuivasa and Alexander Volkov, both ranked in the top 10 in the division, vying for a future title shot.

UFC announced on May 16, 2023, that UFC 293 event would take place in Sydney, Australia. It was revealed that it was going to be the first of the three UFC PPV events to take place in Sydney over the next 4 years.
Isreal Adesanya and Dracius Du Plessis were reported to headline this event in a middleweight title bout. However, Du Plessis was dealing with some injuries which did not allow him to fight at this event. Adesanya then called out Sean Strickland for the title bout. Dana White then announced on August 7 via vide that Adesanya vs Strickland would headline the event. White also announced Tai Tuivasa vs Alexander Volkov heavyweight bout would be the co-main event.
Jared Cannonier served as the back-up fighter for main event middleweight title bout.
Nasrat Haqparast and Sam Patterson were set to clash in a lightweight bout at UFC Paris event. Patterson pulled out of the bout. After this, Haqparast was moved to UFC 293 to fight Landon Quinones.
Shane Young and Gabriel Miranda were set to fight in a featherweight bout. However, Young missed the weight as he came in at 149.75 lbs. The fight was turned into a catchweight fight with Young paying 20% of his purse as a fine for weight miss.
